‘Métal Hurlant’ Returns With New Animation

by Tito W. James

Métal Hurlant (or Heavy Metal in America) was a French SciFi Horror anthology magazine created in 1974 by Moebius,  Philippe Druillet, Jean-Pierre Dionnet, and Bernard Farkas. These four were collectively known as “Les Humanoïdes Associés” (United Humanoids), which became the name of the publishing house known in the US as Humanoids.

With Heavy Metal Magazine and Humanoids currently going through a revitalization via new management, it was only a matter of time before the original Métal Hurlant returned. To celebrate the rebirth of Métal Hurlant, French director Ugo Bienvenu released a trippy new promotional animation. Judging by the success of animated anthologies like Love, Death, and Robots, we could see more lavishly illustrated sci-fi and fantasy stories for adults in the near future.
