Time Bomb Comics’ ‘Bomb Scares’ Anthology Launches On Kickstarter
by Brendan M. Allen
Time Bomb Comics’ horror anthology Bomb Scares makes its return to Kickstarter. The anthology has been a mainstay of Time Bomb since 2015, and has the distinction of being the company’s first book to use crowdfunding.
Debuting as a one-shot comic inspired by the notorious EC horror comics of the fifties and the Warren horror magazines of the seventies, Bomb Scares was rebooted as a modern horror anthology intended to scare, intrigue, bemuse and repulse, and to make readers laugh with unexpected dashes of pitch-black humor too.
Like the previous books, Bomb Scares Volume 3 is 96 pages long and features the work of wide-ranging creators from across the comic book landscape. Editor Paul H. Birch has brought together new writers and artists with returning mainstays to make each of the 15 stories in this anthology truly special.
Featured Creators include Niel Bushnell, John Robbins, Gary Crutchley, Christine Logan, Denis Vermesse, Roland Bird, Owen Watts, Jim Alexander, David Morris, Gary T Becks, Andres Alvez, Mike Lynch, John D Williams, Dave Evans, Marcello Bondi, Ferdinando Genovese, John Erasmus, Anthony Summey, Mats Engesten, Brett Burbridge, Henri de Caroline, and John Hageman, and Phil Winslade.
Steve Tanner, Time Bomb Comics Chief, says
Both Paul and (I) believe that horror comics can – and should – be more than just zombies, vampires and psychopathic killers, so you’ll find that the stories in Bomb Scares Volume 3 range in tone from the unusual to the thought-provoking to the challenging to the visceral.
“Bomb Scares Volume 3 has been a long time in coming,” added Birch. “The Monsters in the Bullpen buried the bodies of those who caused those delays; but let’s not cry over spilt milk or rotting corpses. From Phil Winslade’s subtlety emotive front cover on, this is a book about tragic endings and grave new beginnings – Death and rebirth, hand in hand – As you’ll find out once you get to hold a copy for yourselves.”
Bomb Scares Volume 3 will launch its pre-order through Kickstarter on Thursday, August 5, 2021 with a release date scheduled for October 2021. This provides an opportunity to get the book at a pre-order price and with exclusive extras that will only be available through the campaign.
