The Life Of A Legend: Z2 Comics And The Estate Of John Lee Hooker Bring You ‘One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer.’

by Richard Bruton

Celebrating the life of a musical legend, as Z2 Comics and the estate of John Lee Hooker bring you One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer. And it’s all illustrated by a comics legend, Kyle Baker!

Oh yes, another week, another release notification from Z2 Comics, the leading light in the music comics niche.

This week, it’s a wonderful announcement for what would have been the 105th birthday of a true legend in music, John Lee Hooker!

This is one to really get excited for, as the creative team includes the artistic delights of Kyle Baker, one of my all-time favourites from his work on Cowboy Wally, Why I Hate Saturn, Plastic Man, The Shadow, and so much more – all favourites here at Bruton Mansions.

Joining Baker, we have the writing team of Gabe Soria and Jarrett Williams, who are bringing the essence of the legendary Blues Man to life in three tales in the all-new graphic novel One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer.

John Lee Hooker: One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer tells three tales of Hooker’s storied life through the perspective of those who lived within his massive orbit, weaving textured and interpretative stories that rise to the lofty creative heights of his music and fall to the gritty reality of trying to thrive in several unforgiving eras.

“The Hooker Family thanks Z2 Comics for bringing our dad to life through the fantastic world of John Lee Hooker: One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer and introducing him and the blues to a whole new audience.”Zakiya Hooker, daughter of John Lee Hooker.

And if you don’t know, the legendary blues man John Lee Hooker had a career playing the blues that lasted his whole life, spanning several decades of the American experience, a lifetime of living the American blues experience, translated to blistering, beautiful blues.

As is usual with Z2, there’s the standard, the deluxe, and plenty of extra-special versions available. It’s on general release from March 2022, but you can pre-order the special versions from the Z2 Comics website.
