The whereabouts of Maria Hill are about to be confirmed.
Deadline reports former Stumptown star Cobie Smulders will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion. The program features Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn as their recurring MCU characters, Nick Fury and Talos, as they repel (or aid) an invasion of shape-shifting Skrulls. Also on tap for the program: actors Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Christopher McDonald, and Killian Scott.
Smudlers first debuted as Hill in Avengers, and bounced around to various films and even made an appearance in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D pilot. In her most recent appearance, Spider-Man: Far From Home, the actor turned out to be a Skrull, Talos’s wife Soren (Sharon Blynn), impersonating Hill on orders from Fury.
Indeed, the Far From Home stinger is one of the most curious to date as it has not been resolved or referenced in any subsequent film or television show. Previously, we presumed the armada Fury was building was S.W.O.R.D, but this proved to be false in light of WandaVision. It is possible Fury, Hill, and the armada are all part of S.H.I.E.L.D., though, as the organization may have been reformed in the MCU.
Secret Invasion will presumably debut next year.
