Netflix have optioned Donny Cates’ God Country, and will be producing a film version of the graphic novel to be directed by Jim Mickle. And while it was originally published by Image Comics, it will be AfterShock Media and Legendary that will be bringing it to the streaming giants.
“An aging man with dementia acquires a mythical sword when a tornado blows through his town. While the sword cures him of his disease, he must use it to protect his family against terrifying otherworldly creatures seeking its power.
God Country was originally published in 2017 by Image Comics to critical acclaim. The first issue immediately sold out and had to be reprinted four times before being collected in trade paperback.”
Both Mickle and Cates will be writing the screenplay, with Mickle having previously been the showrunner on Netflix’s Sweet Tooth, another conic book adaption. Previously Mickle directed the films In The Shadow Of The Moon, Cold In July, and We Are What We Are.
