Writer, Poet, Spiritualist Tom Veitch Passes (1941 – 2022)

Comic book writer Tom Veitch has passed away today due to contracting Covid-19. Brother to fellow comic book creator Rick Veitch, Tom had quite the career, both in and out of comics. 

Born September 26th 1941 and attending Columbia University, Tom went on to not only be a Benedictine money in Weston Vermont but later became a poet, author and underground comic creator when he moved to San Francisco in 1968 alongside Greg Irons working on comics such as The Legions Of Charlies, Deviant Slice, and Skull Comix.

In 1982 he entered into mainstream comics with The Light and Darkness War with artist Cam Kennedy for Marvel/Epic, but many will probably remember him most for reinvigorating the Star Wars franchise at Dark Horse with his writing on Dark Empire in 1991. Again working with artist Cam Kennedy. This series would be followed up with two sequels, Dark Empire 2 and Empire’s End.

Other mainstream comic work would follow with The Nazz, Animal Man and more.

In later years Tom ran his own bookstore, Old Bennington Books, and in 2016 he wrote and self-published a book on spiritualism, The Visions of Elias (A True Story of Life In The Spirit.

Tom is survived by his wife Martha Veitch, daughter Angelica Veitch Stasolla, two grandsons Tommy Walls, sister Wendy Lillie of Rockingham Vt, and brothers Robert D. Veitch, MN Rick Veitch, Michael Veitch and Peter Veitch of Chester VT.
