‘The Ballad Of Halo Jones: Full Colour Omnibus Edition’ Announced for January 2023
by Richard Bruton
Where did she go? Out. What did she do? Everything… The Ballad of Halo Jones: Full Colour Omnibus Edition is one to mark for your diaries – a classic re-released (again) in full colour in January 2023.
One of those series that just keeps finding new ways to find a new place on my bookshelves, Alan Moore and Ian Gibson’s The Ballad Of Halo Jones is a breathtakingly great work, a feminist space opera, a sci-fi classic, a damn good piece of comics.
“Halo is an ordinary woman in extraordinary circumstances. Trapped in a crowded housing project floating off the coast of Manhattan, a dystopian world where jobs are scarce and excitement non-existent, a bored Halo dreams of escaping out into the galaxy any way she can to rewrite her destiny.
But in a city where dangerous riots happen at the slightest provocation and even going to the shops is an ordeal requiring careful planning and a handful of zen-inducing-grenades, the price of freedom might prove to be more than she bargained for. And even when she does get out, there are challenges awaiting her in the cosmos that she could never possibly imagine or be prepared for.”Originally published in 2000 AD between 1984 and 1986, Halo Jones is classic early Moore, following the heroic everywoman from dead-end jobs, out into space, through terrible wars and intense personal tragedy, watching her go from simple, innocent teen to world-weary woman.
Collected many times over the years, 2018 saw the first colour collections of Halo Jones, with colour art by Barbara Nosenzo, giving Ian Gibson’s classic black & white artwork subtle colours, a new look for a new time perhaps.
Published in three separate volumes from 2018, this is the first time to get the complete full colour Halo Jones in omnibus form for the first time.
The Ballad of Halo Jones: Full Colour Omnibus Edition, complete with new, extra material, will be published in January 2023.
