Bubble is a Netflix original anime directed by Tetsuro Araki (Attack on Titan, Death Note) with an original story written by Gen Urobuchi (Fate Zero, Magical Girl Madoka), character designs by Takeshi Obata (Death Note), and music by Hiroyuki Sawano (Kill La Kill). The story is set in Tokyo, after bubbles that broke the laws of gravity rained down upon the world. We follow two teenagers who must use parkour to navigate the lost city in search of a sound only they can hear. Urobuchi’s work on Fate and Madoka is what sucked me into anime fandom and they remain my two favorite anime series of all time. Urobuchi’s writing, when paired with the superb directing of Araki and the epic score of Sawano, could make for an unparalleled success. Truth be told: anime TV series have been getting more attention than anime movies. While there will always be audiences for seminal works like Akira and the Ghibli movies, we need something bold and new that speaks to the next generation.
Adventure, danger, and mystery will all collide when Bubble releases on Netflix April 28th, 2022.
