Comic Creators Unite For ‘Comics For Ukraine: Sunflower Seeds’

by Olly MacNamee

There have been many ways in which individuals and groups of people have been able to help out in their own way with the horrendous drawn out war in Ukraine. And now the comic book community have come together for a crowdfunding comic book anthology project that will see all profits got to supporting the aid efforts in Ukraine.

Creators like Howard Chaykin, Walt Simonson, Arthur Adams, Bill Sienkiewicz, Jill Thompson and more will be producing all-new comic book strips to be included in Comics for Ukraine: Sunflower Seeds. currently campaigning on Zoop here. And all brought together under the watchful eye of editor Scott Dunbier.

As with any crowdfunding campaign there are various pledges you can back. For $60 you’ll get a hardback edition of the anthology which will include all-new and exclusive instalments of American Flagg!, Astro City, Chew and Grendel to name but a few that will appear in this  96 page book. For $175 you can get the same hardback buts signed by a selection of the contributing artists and for those with smaller budgets you can grab a softcover edition for $40. But, if you’ve already clicked on the link you can see the full selection there.

Here’s what Dunbier had to say and what spurred him on to curate this project:

“Like everyone, I have been sickened by the atrocities perpetrated on the Ukrainian people for nearly two months and I had to do something, anything, to try and help. The comic-book community is full of good and caring people who have stepped up to say, ‘I stand with Ukraine,’ and to contribute to this book.”

All money raised will go to the charity Operation USA.
