‘Raising Dion’ Cancelled At Netflix

Raising Dion is the latest Netflix show to end after just two seasons.
Deadline reports word of its cancellation surfaced via an Instagram post by star Sammi Haney, who wrote “thank you for all of the amazing support we got from all of our wonderful fans! Season 2 was a success, equal to Season 1, even if just looking at how many people watched all of it and wanted a season 3!” Netflix later confirmed the series was kaput.
Based on the comic book written by Dennis Liu, the program centered on young mother Nicole (Alisha Wainwright), whose son Dion (Ja’Siah Young) begins to exhibit superpowers. While he’d love to be a superhero, she’d prefer he just be a kid. Complicating matters: a genuine supervillain in the first season and a shadowy school for gifted youngsters in the second. The show also featured Haney, Jason Ritter, Rome Flynn, and Griffin Robert Faulkner.
The cancellation is the latest in Netflix’s tendency to pull the plug on programs quite quickly. Although the company declines to offer true viewer numbers, it is said a proprietary algorithm is used to determine which shows get renewed. This leads to a lot of critically acclaimed series ending before their time.
The streamer, which saw a large loss in subscribers and stock value last week, will carry on with high profile projects like The Witcher, Stranger Things, and a planned feature film version of Mobile Suit Gundam.
