State Of Play Announces ‘Final Fantasy XVI’ Release Date With New Trailer

by Gary Catig

At the recent State of Play showcase, we received a number of announcements for upcoming games on the PlayStation. One of the most anticipated titles featured was Final Fantasy XVI.

We received our best look yet at the gameplay with the new teaser trailer entitled “Dominance,” as well as a release date of summer 2023. A running aspect that runs throughout the franchise is the use of summons. In Final Fantasy XVI, they are known as Eikons and we meet some familiar, albeit grander, versions including Phoenix, Titan, Ramuh, and Shiva. To gain a better idea of the plot, check out the official description.

“Final Fantasy XVI brings players into a world where Eikons are powerful and deadly creatures that reside within Dominants—a single man or woman who is blessed with the ability to call upon their dreaded power. The story follows Clive Rosfield, a young man dedicated to mastering the blade, who is dubbed the First Shield of Rosaria and tasked to guard his younger brother Joshua—the Dominant of the Phoenix. Unexpected events set Clive on a dark and dangerous road to revenge.”

The game is a standalone single player action-RPG being developed for the PlayStation 5. It will be released in the summer of 2023. If you haven’t caught the trailer yet, see it below.
