‘Paper Girls’ To Debut July 29 On Prime Video

by Erik Amaya

Paper Girls will finally make its mark July 29th on Prime Video.

The program, based on the comic book by Brian K. Vaughn and Cliff Chiang, follow the four girls — Mac (Sofia Rosinsky), Tiffany (Camryn Jones), Erin (Riley Lai Nelet) and KJ (Fina Strazza) — as their paper routes take a turn for the weird the morning after Halloween 1988. Soon, they are caught up in a time war and find themselves flung into the distant past, a few decades into their own future, and the beautiful nightmare of a distant world both propped up and devastated by all that time travel. They also learn startling things about themselves, both thanks to the future versions of themselves that they see and just by virtue of going on this journey. Ali Wong also stars as the grown-up version of Erin.

Stephany Folsom, Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers serve as executive producers with Folsom and Rogers splitting showrunner duties. The series is a production of Amazon Studios and Legendary Television, in association with Plan B.

One curious twist, though. The program will debut all eight episodes on July 29th. This is different from Amazon’s usual pattern, which is to release the first three episodes of a show on premiere day and release the rest on a weekly basis. It is unclear why they are releasing the series in a binge model, but having read Paper Girls in its original issue-by-issue format — complete with delays and scheduled breaks to compile the collected editions — getting it all at once may be something of a relief.
