As the only DC Comics-inspired series on The CW this Fall, Stargirl is starting its third season early.

The network announced Tuesday that the program will return Wednesday August 31, taking over The Flash‘s 8pm timeslot. Curiously, the rest of The CW’s new Fall schedule will not debut until October. It suggests to us that there is a very real need to air all of Stargirl‘s upcoming episodes before the end of the year. Granted, the usual network schedule hiatuses may get in the way of that. Other new series beginning in October include Supernatural spinoff The Winchesters and Walker: Independence — a spinoff from Walker.

Stargirl‘s upcoming season, subtitled “Frenemies,” will presumably follow-up on the Mister Bones and Obsidian teases in the wake of Eclipso’s defeat. What Bones will want with the JSA is anyone’s guess. It could be a simple as setting up an Infinity Inc or something truly sinister. Brec Bassinger returns as Courtney Whitmore with most of the cast still in tact and the formerly villainous(?) Crocks moving in next door. Also changing life in Blue Valley: Joel McHale as the back-from-the-dead Sylvester Pemberton.

Stargirl returns August 31 on The CW.
