Advance Review: Touched By An Angel In `Sins Of The Black Flamingo’ #3

What is a recently resurrected atheist to do when encountering an angel? Chances are, your first guess wasn’t to sleep with him. But that’s the unlikely choice that Sebastian Harlow makes.

You can hardly blame Harlow, aka the Black Flamingo. After all, he was just resurrected after being shot at killed at the end of the last issue. At the sight of Ezekiel the angel, he weeps, then falls into his arms. The rest is… pretty much a mortal sin.

Writer Andrew Wheeler scripts the story of the conflicted Harlow, a man who is cursed with seeing decay all around him. As a result, he believes in the devil, but not God. Yet he still has a strong moral compass, castigating racists and stealing from Nazis. That crusade led to his untimely demise, but a friendly golem whom he previously rescued came to Harlow’s aid and brought him back to life. And after his tryst with the angel, he goes right back to stealing from the baddies.

In a medium known for its busty women, artist Travis Moore has excelled in drawing the male form in this series. With a good chunk of this installment focused on lovemaking, he shows just how sensual he can be. The nudes are tasteful – this isn’t porn after all, so there’s no full-frontal – but there are lots of butt shots. LOTS of butt shots. If that bothers you, stay away from the series. If it turns you on, you won’t find much better than Moore’s artwork. And to be fair to the artist, the pages that don’t show off naked men range from good to great as well.

With only two more issues left in this limited series, it’s likely that the focus will shift from portraying heavenly sex to resolving the plot issues. Whatever comes though, Moore’s artwork will likely continue to be a highlight.
