Amazing Fantasy: Reviewing ‘StarHenge’ #3

Summary
‘StarHenge’ #3 depicts a magical recount of the forming of Stone Henge as well as a narrative track from a rather snarky Amber in the 21st century. But why her? As this issue unfolds, we start getting some idea of her role in this legendary tale.
Overall
10/10Writer and artist Liam Sharp turns it up to eleven on this issue with art that is evocative of Frank Frazetta on more than one occasion with a string reliance on big splash pages to convey the sheer scale of this chapter. An issue that recounts the creation of Stonehenge while also depicting a mighty and violent Uther Pendragon in all his battling glory. And all told, void of any pomposity that such tales often are told in and with a touch of the sarcastic, by our contemporary narrator, Amber.
It’s another issue filled with magical and mighty characters all lavishly presented in the painting style Sharp has come to adopt to great effect in this phase of his career. But, it isn’t the only artistic style on display her as he layers in more diagrams and maps into the artwork as well as a depiction of Merlin that is strikingly jarring too with more than a hint of Bill Sienkiewicz in his portrayal.
But, it’s also an issue that is set in the modern world too as Sharp begins to hint at the cosmic lines that connect the past with the present and the future, from whence Merlin has travelled through time. She may have been a character disconnected from this story thus far, but after the final page reveal of this issue, something tells me she will become a much bigger part in the saga.
