NYCC 2022: Sunday Swag Brag

by Brendan M. Allen

Here’s the last of it. This is all the swag I purchased on the final day of New York Comic Con 2022. In case you’re wondering how I get all this stuff home, my carry-on was empty on the way in. I packed my checked back about ¾ full, and you’re allowed a carry-on AND a backpack, which is where I carry my laptop, camera, dictaphone, etc…

The airline gate-checked my empty carry-on, like they almost always do, and I’ve been packing that sucker full since Friday.

Sunday, I picked up a sketch blank of Nottingham #6, hoping to run into Shane Connery Volk, but we didn’t cross paths, so it remains unadorned. My nine year old is really into the Wings of Fire series, so I thought he’d get a kick out of this Drawing Dragons instructional art book. I also stopped by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley’s table to grab a secret variant cover of The Approach #1. I haven’t peeked, and I probably won’t.

At Mad Cave Studios, I secured Grimm Tales From The Cave, The Last Session, and their Ukraine relief charity book Lower Your Sights. On the way back to the hotel, I passed a firehouse where the firefighters smartly had a table on the street selling shirts to the convention goers who were passing by on the way out of the Con. Well played, gentlemen.

Grabbed a couple of trades at the Sumerian Comics booth. These folks have some really killer covers. We’ll see what the interiors look like.

I’ve never purchased one of these mystery boxes. This one looked like it had potential, so I figured it’s about time. Maybe I’ll do an unboxing video. Maybe I’ll leave it sealed. If I never open it, I can’t be disappointed, right? It’s Schrödinger’s Swag.
