An Interview With Dan Price About ‘Bigfoot Knows Karate’
by Benjamin Hall
Writer/artist Dan Price is one of the creators of the independent comic book series Bigfoot Knows Karate. Writer/editor Casey Allen is Price’s main co-creator on this series. He and Allen are currently running a Kickstarter campaign for issue 2 of the series. Price is also the creator of the series Latex Avenger (2007-2012). His previous credits include working with production company Sugar Skull Productions and writer Mark Darden.

Benjamin Hall: What is the pitch you give people to try and encourage interest in Bigfoot Knows Karate?
Dan Price: BIGFOOT KNOWS KARATE is the story of a gentle cryptid warrior trying to find better understanding of where he fits into the world and why he’s here. Think Godzilla vs. Kong meets Kill Bill with a twist of Lost.
Hall: Is this in any way a dream project for you?
Price: In a way, it is. I’ve done mostly comedy work in the past as a writer only, so co-writing with Casey Allen and drawing the full story in a completely different genre (action/adventure, psychological thriller) is absolutely awesome.

Hall: Is this title taking any inspiration from the 2007 kung fu bear video?
Price: No, that’s a new one on me.
Hall: Do you and the rest of the creative team have a set number of issues you are planning?
Price: The first main arc is five issues, with an epilogue that will lead into another arc.
Hall: Is this series going to stay independent via crowdfunding?
Price: That is the plan at this time. We are not against catching on with a larger publisher, but the integrity of the story comes first.

Hall: Is Kickstarter the only method to get the comic?
Price: You can buy physical copies on mephistocomics.com and read digitals at globalcomix.com.
Hall: Finally why the specific combination of Bigfoot and karate?
Price: Because Nessie doing Judo would be tough with the flippers and all.
Thanks to Dan Price for his time.
Bigfoot Does Karate #2 is currently on kickstarter.
