The Comicon Advent Calendar 2022: Day 15 – It’s Xmas With The Hawkeyes
by Richard Bruton
Day 15 of The Comicon Advent Calendar 2022 and we’re getting more and more Christmassy as the month goes on (it’s the eggnog probably to blame) – with today’s entry bringing us a Hawkeye Christmas…
Matt Fraction and David Aja’s 2012-2015 Hawkeye series is pretty much universally acclaimed as one of the best series of Marvel’s archer and one that heavily informed the Marvel TV show to boot. The stories are inventive, the art from Aja (and others through the run, but mostly Aja) is just incredible – and it’s absolutely one you should have read.
But today, we’re all about issue #6 of the series for the Comicon Advent, ‘Six Nights in the life of Hawkeye’, opening with the spirit of Christmas and the joys of watching Tony and Clint completely fail to get to grips with setting up Clint’s AV system…
The whole issue is just a wonderful thing, with Hawkeye desperately needing a hell of a lot of time off just to recover from the bumps and bruises he gets thanks to the beatings Fraction’s been throwing at him. He’s looking forward to nothing but peace and quiet and the viewing pleasure of the entire season of DOG COPS…
Except things don’t quite work out that way, as we jump forward and back through six days and six night of the misadventures of Hawkeye…
So in addition to the fun and frolics and frustrations of the AV system, we get to see Clint, Spidey, and Wolverine take on AIM….
Thrill to the sights of Clint getting the snot kicked out of him by the Bros…
And generally get all warm and fuzzy because it’s Christmas and Clint’s just one of those good guys who always at least try to do the right thing… even if it’s his fault that there’s an arrow messing up his building’s TV reception…
Hawkeye #6 was written by Matt Fraction, art was by David Aja, colours were by Matt Hollingsworth and letters by Chris Eliopoulos.
You can find Hawkeye’s Christmas tale collected in Hawkeye Little Hits, collecting Hawkeye #6-11, by Fraction and Aja, along with Francesco Francavilla, Jesse Hamm, Steve Lieber, and Annie Wu.
