‘Star Wars Visions’ Sets Second Volume For May With Surprising Creators

Star Wars Visions is the recurring Disney+ anthology series utilizing animation greats and setting them loose in the Star Wars galaxy. The first volume was a critical success, so a second volume was inevitable. And according Disney, that second volume will hit the service on, appropriately enough, May 4th.
This time around, the vision expands from Japanese anime outfits to a worldwide affair. The nine new shorts come from studios in places like Chile, the UK, India, and South Africa. The studios involved include El Guiri, Cartoon Saloon, Punkrobot, Aardman, Studio Mir, Studio La Cachette, 88 Pictures, D’art Shtajio, and Triggerfish. Of course, the name inspiring a lot of talk on Twitter already is Aardman, the stop-motion company famous for Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run.
“Animation is in a global renaissance, and we’re constantly staggered by the amount of creativity pushing the medium forward” executive producer James Waugh said in a statement. “Every short is incredible, full of heart, scope, imagination, and the values that make stories distinctly Star Wars — all while opening up bold new ways of seeing what a Star Wars story can be.”
Disney also made available the titles for each short, which you can speculate on as they are quite evocative: “Sith”, “Screecher’s Reach”, “In the Stars”, “I Am Your Mother”, “Journey to the Dark Head”, “The Spy Dancer”, “The Bandits of Golak”, “The Pit”, and “Aau’s Song.” Plot synopses were not made available — but considering Visions is more about style and form than plot and lore, maybe it is more useful to wait until they come to the service and experience them fresh.
Star Wars Visions returns May 4th.
