Clancy Brown To Play Sal Maroni On HBO Max’s ‘The Penguin’

The Penguin‘s mob war is heating up.

Variety reports Clancy Brown will play Salvatore Maroni in the upcoming HBO Max series. Starring Colin Farrell as Oswald “Ozzy” Cobblepot, it will carry on the organized crime plot from The Batman as he consolidates his power in the wake of Carmine Falcone’s (John Turturro) death. Of course, his rise in the Gotham underworld will not go uncontested as Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti) mounts a challenge of her own. Maroni, portrayed as both a rival boss and an ally in various Batman tales over the years, may prove to be another claimant to the throne, but since the show is called The Penguin, we imagine Ozzy will get one over on him in the end. The eight-episode program will feature Brown in a recurring basis, so he may survive long enough to burn Harvey Dent’s face in The Batman sequel. Well, presuming Dent appears in the film, of course.

Other cast members include Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell. The series, executive produced by Lauren LeFranc and The Batman director Matt Reeves, has reportedly begun filming.
