‘Starfinder’ To Make Its Comics Debut With ‘Angels Of The Drift’ This June From Dynamite
by Erik Amaya
The Dynamite collaboration with Paizo continues as both companies prepare for Starfinder‘s comic book debut this June.
Starfinder: Angels of the Drift comes from writer James L. Sutter, a long timer Paizo staffer who also served as creative director for the Starfinder table top role playing game, and artist artist Edu Menna of Army of Darkness fame. The tale focuses on Navasi, a human woman and reformed pirate who ends up the fast-talking, plan-crafting de facto captain for a group of ne’er-do-wells.
The team includes the reptilian Obozaya — the main muscle — Ciravel, a precog elf who uses a hoverchair; hot headed mechanic Quig, who comes along with a pet robot and a deadly flamethrower; and Keskodai, an insectoid medic who also serves as a priest of a death goddess. They band together as a disaster in the hyperspace dimension known as “the Drift” completely throws off the galaxy’s ability to travel between worlds safely. But then the real trouble starts.
“Starfinder is all about exploring the galaxy and having epic adventures, but at the end of the day it’s also about your real-world experience as a player, sitting around a table having fun with your friends,” Sutter said in a statement. “I think the comic zeroes in on that feeling — that no matter how high the stakes get, both the game and the comic are meant to be fun.”
Supporting the first issue are a trio of covers from Menna, Richard Pace, and Biagio d’Alessandro. Pace’s covers for the series will form a larger image when the whole story is complete. Each issue also comes with extra content for players of the tabletop game, including playable character stats for all the heroes, new character options inspired by the comic, a brand new playable species, and more — all officially sanctioned by the Starfinder Society.
Additionally, the Starfinder comic will alternate months the new Patherfinder series, Pathfinder: Wake the Dead, with an issue of one or the other debuting every month for a consisting hit of Paizo-inspired storytelling.
Starfinder: Angels of the Drift #1 will arrive in comics shops this June.
