Even More Convention News: Scotland’s Glasgow Comic Con Returns In June

Nothing can keep a good Comic Con down – The Glasgow Comic Con returns on June 3rd 2023!
Another COMICS convention to highlight now in the UK. Now, I know there’s all sorts of events and conventions calling themselves Comic Cons, but honestly, when the comic guests are sequestered away in the back rooms by the toilets, where there’s way more pop culture stands selling everything but comics, and where more prominence is given on the promo materials to some bit part actor from Lord of the Rings or whatever… then I reckon that’s more focused on the Con than on the Comics.
Sure, each to their own and all that, but I love a good comic convention. And luckily for the UK, they have a lot of them. We have the big two in Thought Bubble and The Lakes International Comic Arts Festival, but we also have smaller events that focus primarily on comics, the likes of Portsmouth Comic Con, Lawless, Macc-Pow, and, of course, Glasgow Comic Con.
It may have taken a couple of years off because of the great plague – but then again, didn’t we all – but 2023 sees the return of the Glasgow Comic Con for it’s 11th event.
Bar the last couple of years, Glasgow Comic Con has been happening annually since 2011, where it began at the Mackintosh Church and saw over 600 comic fans turn up for the first comic book convention in Scotland for 15 years. That year also saw the inaugural Scottish Independent Comic Book Awards take place.
Over the years the conventions welcomed a host of homegrown and international guests and has expanded each year, moving into bigger premises and hosting workshops and events in the week leading up to the one-day convention.
This year sees a return to Royal City Hall in Glasgow for the usual comic goodness. You can buy tickets right now from their website. No news of guests yet, but we’ll let you know as and when we hear who to expect.
