The End Of Dan Berry’s ‘Make It Then Tell Everybody’ Podcast

For just over a decade, Dan Berry has been making Make It Then Tell Everybody, one of the best comics podcasts you could ever listen to. But all things must end…

Every so often something comes along that is absolutely essential. It might be a comic, book, movie, whatever, but it’s something that everyone and anyone involved or interested in the subject simply has to be following. For comics, that thing was Dan Berry‘s Make It Then Tell Everybody podcast.

Now, you should already be aware of Berry through any of his many great comic works or the two recent books for Top Shelf, Rivers and The Three Rooms in Valerie’s Head, both written by David Gaffney. He’s a great, great comic maker.

But Berry’s also a comics maker fascinated with the process of comic making. And just over a decade ago he began Make It Then Tell Everyone. Simply put, while lecturing on comics, Berry wanted to find some resource for his students that let them into the making comics side of things. And, not finding anything that fitted what he wanted, he went ahead and made it himself.

After 10+ years and a few million downloads later, Berry’s interviewed and talked to so many different artists and creators about comics. But now it’s time to down headphones and move on. You can read Berry’s fascinating blog post on the history of MITTE and his reasons for ending it now here.

Over the years, Dan’s interviewed so many different creators, whether that’s the flourishing Brit comics scene, exciting newcomers from around the world, or big, big names. And it’s all there still for you to listen to – you might want to go back to the early days of recordings from a Birmingham Zine Fair with Kristyna Baczynski, Joe List, Jonathan Edwards, Felt Mistress, Warwick Johnson Cadwell, or Lizz Lunney, Philippa Rice, Luke Pearson and Marc Ellerby, or the ever entertaining John Allison, maybe a 1am recording with Glyn Dillon, Understanding Comics’ Scott McCloud, life after the Walking Dead with Charlie Adlard, Kieron Gillen, Tillie Walden, Rachael Smith, hell, you could even listen to Dan himself, either interviewed by Hannah Berry for the 100th episode or as a final sign-off. But trust me, there’s plenty of listening from a veritable who’s who of comics.

Dan’s still making comics, thankfully, because like he says… comics rule. But it’s the end of Make It Then Tell Everyone. The entire archive remains online and is essential listening for anyone involved in comics, anyone who loves comics.
