TV Review: ‘Titans’ Season 4, Episode 7

Titans has returned for the second part of its final season, but it’s hard to tell that’s where the show is at. Very little happened in this episode plot wise, which is not what fans want to see when a show is nearing its end. There was some good tension and action in the first part of the season, so much so that it was enough to get fans hopeful that its second half would start off strong. After the climax where Brother Blood (Joseph Morgan) was born, things have hit a bit of a lull. The Titans regroup and try to figure out how they are going to combat this new threat. It becomes especially complicated when they were the ones who failed Sebastian, allowing him to become their enemy instead.

This episode picked up pretty much where the previous one left off as Sebastian emerges into his new form. The Titans were protected during this time, and awoke when everyone was gone. However, they found a clue from Lex Luthor (Titus Welliver) leading them to the next items Sebastian needs to bring Trigon to Earth. The team try to beat him there, but get stuck in a weird town that seems to be cut off from the rest of the world. Tim (Jay Lycurgo) and Bernard (James Scully) were left on the outside, so they were able to reconcile their relationship while the rest of the team was MIA.

The episode ended on a cliffhanger, which makes sense given that it was a two-parter, but by itself, this episode did not do much to satisfy what fans have been missing during the hiatus. Tim was the only one to have any real meaningful character moments. Everything else felt like it was just buying time until Dick (Brenton Thwaites) was inevitably captured, leading to the cliffhanger. The second part maybe more worthwhile as far as a full-fledged premiere, but that just seems like a waste. Even a single part of a two-parter should be entertaining on its own.
