Magnetic Press Launching Classic Horror Graphic Novels By Illustrator Georges Bess

Magnetic Press has announced the upcoming premiere of two classic horror novel adaptations by celebrated illustrator Georges Bess: Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Faithfully drawn from the original classic text, these premium, oversized artist’s edition hardcovers will recount these two genre-defining tales in lush pencil and ink illustration by one of Europe’s most revered graphic novelists.

Known internationally for his extensive body of work with notorious writer and director Alejandro Jodorowsky at the height of the European comics renaissance of the 1970s and ‘80s, Bess established himself as a premiere visionary and stylistic chameleon. His illustrative talent and improvisational instinct set him apart among peers such as Jean “Moebius” Giraud, Philippe Druillet, Milo Minara, and Claire Wendling. Now, after nearly 50 years of celebrated, award-winning titles and gallery expositions, he turns his brush to representing two of the world’s most recognized horror classics: Dracula and Frankenstein.

Each 9″x 12″ hardcover volume will present the artist’s evocative and detailed artwork in its purest, untouched form allowing the inks and lines of his process to shine through. At over 200 pages each, these adaptations adhere to the original novels’ structure, pulling directly from Stoker and Shelley’s original texts as often as possible. Dracula’s 224-page presentation even includes Stoker’s original first chapter, removed from the classic’s first publication, but published posthumously as the short story “Dracula’s Guest.”

These gallery-quality volumes will feature metallic foil elements on linen-textured covers to further capture the tactile canvas and artboard presentation. This graphic novel double feature is being offered for pre-order exclusively through Backerkit in a campaign launching on Tuesday, April 25th at 10am CT.
