Matthew Mercer GMs ‘Dimension 20: The Ravening War’ In Just-Released Trailer

by Anton Kromoff

Welcome to the table,

You are going to want to watch this…

I KNOW RIGHT!

So what we know so far is that The Ravening War is a dark and twisty prequel miniseries to the wildly popular Dimension 20: A Crown of Candy. For those who are not familiar with the series, it’s an Actual Play* TTRPG series themed along the lines of  “Game of Thrones meets Candy Land” and hosted by Brennan Lee Mulligan.

The cast of players for The Ravening War is outstanding with Brennan Lee Mulligan (Dimension 20, Worlds Beyond Number), Lou Wilson (Dimension 20, Worlds Beyond Number), Zac Oyama (Dimension 20, Not Another D&D Podcast), Aabria Iyengar (Dimension 20, Exandria Unlimited), and Anjali Bhimani (Ms. Marvel, Exandria Unlimited).

And serving as the Storyteller for The Ravening War is none other than Matthew Mercer (Critical Role, Overwatch) himself! I’m so excited because this is the first time Mercer will be leading a campaign as the Storyteller for Dimension 20.

These industry titans have chosen Dropout.tv as the place to showcase their talents at a time when tabletop gaming is at an all-time high worldwide and the community shows no signs of stopping its ascent. It makes total sense to me as everyone I know that has a subscription to Dropout.tv loves it.

Since its launch in 2018, it has easily become one of the most popular subscription platforms for comedy and nerd culture, and in my circles, it’s one that is talked about often for sure. If you’re looking for more info on Dropout and how you can get a subscription today (and this is not sponsored, I just think it’s neat!) you can visit Dropout.tv

*Actual Play – My editor loves when I do these little notes. He says he learns something every time. Actual Play is where people play a TTRPG to create a work that showcases them actually playing a tabletop role-playing game. The work is not just a raw recording of a gaming session and typically involves a set, sound design, and other creative modifications to make for a polished finished work.

All of these are produced for audiences and depict the game mechanics, the narrative created through the gameplay, and the players’ experiences with that game. Actual Play shows can involve a mix of unscripted actions and improvisation, prior plotting and planning by the person often referred to as a Storyteller, Game Master, or GM. However, the resulting work is still presented as representing the reality of that game session even if there are creative modifications.
