Greg Weisman Takes Readers To The ‘Gargoyles: Dark Ages’ This July

Dynamite’s Gargoyles comic line is expanding.

Soon, fans of the Disney Afternoon series turned comic book will get the chance to see the Gargoyles as never before with Gargoyles: Dark Ages. The limited series from co-creator and writer Greg Weisman, artist Drew Moss, and letterer Jeff Eckleberry will finally take a look at the origins of the Manhattan Clan some 1000 years before the events of the television series and current comic storyline. Set a millennium ago, the story will detail the early days of the the Gargoyle-Human Alliance, when both species vowed to protect one another, and the threats their new partnership faced 20 years before Goliath and the others were turned to stone.

And, not for nothing, the story will feature a younger and seemingly loyal Demona, whose eventual turn to darkness may be glimpsed within Dark Ages‘s pages.

“I have all these stories that I’ve wanted to tell for decades now, so I pitched a number of ideas to Dynamite and Disney, and this is the one that excited everyone the most,” Weisman said in a statement. “This is an exciting era for the Gargoyle Clan (not to mention an exciting time in Scottish History), and I’m thrilled we’ll all have a chance to explore it together.”

Already planned to feature an oversized 24-page story, the first issue of Dark Ages will also include four pages of prose storytelling by Weisman with spot illustrations to get deeper into the ever-expanding Gargoyles lore.

Supporting the first issue will be covers from Clayton Crain, Alan Quah, Mirka Andolfo, Kenya Danino, and Erica Henderson. Limited edition variant covers will include an action figure inspired piece, pitch artwork from the TV show, and covers by Moss and Jae Lee.
