‘Red Sonja’ 50th Anniversary Continues With Free Comic Book Day #0 Issue And More Cover Artists
by Erik Amaya
The Red Sonja anniversary celebration continues.
Dynamite announced Thursday that its upcoming Red Sonja ongoing series from writer Torunn Grønbekk and artist Walter Geovani will be teased with a special #0 issue during May 6th’s Free Comic Book Day. Featuring a cover from artist Nick Bradshaw, it will preview some of the new series’ status quo.
Accused of a crime she did not commit, Sonja is on the run even as an “unseen force” tugs at her mind. As the company puts it, “big surprises await readers, as the creative team pays tribute to the golden anniversary legend, while challenging her and the audience’s expectations along the journey.”

Meanwhile, additional artists have joined the roster of variant covers to be offered with the first issue when it releases in July. The already announced stable — which includes Shannon Maer, Jim Cheung, Alan Quah, Bryan Hitch, Jenny Frison, Kevin Eastman, Mike Mignola, Lucio Parrillo, Joseph Michael Linsner, and Bjorn Barends — will be joined by legendary French collage artist Mr. Garcin and cosplayer Joanie Brosas. Additional covers featuring a throwback cover with Frank Thorne art, action figure packaging design, and photography of a Sideshow statue will also be available.
Red Sonja #1 hits stores in July.
