‘2000 AD’ Cover Reveal: Greg Capullo’s First Ever Dredd For ‘The Darkest Judge’ Exclusive Edition

by Richard Bruton

Greg Capullo, the legendary artist of Spawn and Batman takes on Judge Dredd for the very first time with a San Diego Comic-Con and 2000 AD subscriber exclusive cover to The Darkest Judge.

We’ve already told you all about the forthcoming Judge Dredd: The Darkest Judge collection in our first look at the zombie infestation of the 2000 AD megaverse. It’s Dredd and Johnny Alpha vs Sabbat in a rerun of ‘Judgement Day’ that takes a particularly undead twist that comes out on 19 July.

As part of the buildup to the release, 2000 AD have just revealed an exclusive variant cover by a certain Greg Capullo. It’s Capullo’s very first artwork in the world of Dredd and it’s pretty damned great.

The cover’s limited to just 500 copies, with 300 of them up for sale at San Diego Comic-Con which runs from 19 July to 23 July. The other 200 copies will be held back for 2000AD subscribers to order from the 2000 AD web shop.

The Darkest Judge is a massive, multi-part, multiversal what-if tale that celebrates 30 years of the iconic Judge Dredd: Judgement Day. Where Garth Ennis, Carlos Ezquerra, and Peter Doherty’s original had Dredd and Johnny Alpha save the day as part of the execution squad that did away with Sabbat the Necromancer, The Darkest Judge imagines what might have happened if they dropped dimension bombs to shift the whole zombie horde into multiple different realities.

It’s a spectacular bit of what it wish fulfillment with every bit of 2000 AD having to deal with the zombie threat and it’s a book that 2000 AD are obviously hoping is going to be a big hit at this year’s San Diego.
