NSFW Trailer: ‘Mortal Kombat’ Receives Another Reboot With ‘Mortal Kombat 1’
by Sage Ashford
After months of it being the worst kept secret in video games, Mortal Kombat 1 has been officially announced. Confirmed by the game’s home page, Mortal Kombat 1 takes place in a rebooted universe created by the Fire God Liu Kang, hinting that the “good” ending of Mortal Kombat: Aftermath is now canon.
The cinematic trailer introduces well-known Mortal Kombat characters like Sub-Zero, Scorpion, The Great Kung Lao, Raiden, Kitana, Mileena, and Shang Tsung, alongside Fire God Liu Kang himself. It’s also one of the goriest trailers in recent memory, meaning it’s definitely NSFW. Other than that, there’s not much information to be pulled from the trailer itself.
The web page confirms the existence of “Kameo Fighters”, a unique roster of fighters who can assist players in battle. It also promises an immersive story campaign, and mentions a “Kombat Pack” that will add six new characters and five Kameo Fighters available post-launch. The first Kombat Pack will also add a Johnny Cage character skin that’s patterned after Jean-Claude Van Damme, which will be available at launch for people who like their real-life references. Meanwhile, pre-ordering the game will grant access to Mortal Kombat villain Shang Tsung.
Mortal Kombat 1 launches for Sony PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store September 19th.
