TV Review: ‘Gotham Knights’ Season 1, Episode 11

Gotham Knights continues to tease its audience by giving it just a taste of what it can do with the Batman mythology. This episode is a great example of that as it really gets into the weeds regarding the Joker’s Daughter and Two-Face. Nevertheless, it continues to show why it’s a CW drama first and a superhero show second. Its other characters continue to develop their own relationships and deal with events that are completely separate from any sort of superhero antics or action. This week’s episode actually had some meaningful developments that were both entertaining and compelling. It just can be frustrating when the show doesn’t reach its full potential in regards to its comic book story lines.
Things start off with the other Knights learning that Turner (Oscar Morgan) and Duela (Olivia Rose Keegan) spent the night together. This leads them to go on a date of sorts where they meet Duela’s mother. She manages to kidnap Harvey Dent (Misha Collins) and reveals that he is her real father. She also says that the two of them had a relationship. Harvey is completely unaware of this, but he suspects that it may be true as he is unaware of what his other half does when it is in control. Meanwhile, Stephanie (Anna Lore) has a crisis of her own as her father is arrested on drug charges and the police are using it as leverage to get her to turn on her friends.
Every episode gets a step closer to Harvey’s official transformation into Two-Face. It’s a tease that Batman fans may be getting frustrated with, though. At the same time, this episode highlights the potential for when and if that happens. Duela is a great character and her mind jumps back and forth between moments of happiness and madness. It’s pretty unclear where all of this is headed as the show has multiple story threads that are all going in different directions. But it will be interesting to see how it all plays out, even if the drama is taking center stage and the action is falling behind.
