Dynamite Takes To Kickstarter For New ‘Alliances’ Campaign

Alliances will be formed.
Dynamite announced Thursday a new Kickstarter campaign for Alliances: Orphans, a 184-page graphic novel from writers Luke Lieberman and Ryan Silbert — with Bill Sienkiewicz and Syzmon Kudranski on art — based on ideas they created with the late Stan Lee. Indeed, “Traitor’s Revenge,” a story written by Lee with Sienkiewicz providing art, will be one of the key features of the campaign as it also comes available as its own comic book.
Orphans, meanwhile, introduces a “diverse cast of characters hurtling through a new saga.” William Ackerson is lost in space, but attempting to learn the origin of his uncanny abilities. He’s joined by a crew wherein “each member is the last of their kind, with the evil alien Hive having wiped out all their kin. Little Boy is the giant childlike leader of the Orphans. Haze is a caustic creature of pure vapor. Rascal is a self-loathing zealot with dark secrets. Critter is a monster with a puppy-like demeanor. Lastly, the mysterious stowaway Samsi is the fearsome survivor of a civilization that once ruled the galaxy.” The rag-tag crew must learn to work together if they’re ever to help Ackerson learn the truth and, potentially, save the universe.
In a statement, Lieberman and Silbert said, “When we would discuss cosmic storytelling with Stan, he would often look up, point toward the sky and then, when the idea came to him he would wave his hand like a magician. Bringing Orphans to life in this new project, and expanding Alliances into the stars, is something we know fans have been anticipating for years. This is that moment.”
Kickstarter rewards include the standard hardcover edition of the book, a logo-free “virgin” limited edition exclusive to the campaign, a digital edition, copies signed jointly by Sienkiewicz, Lieberman, and Silbert, and — of course — the “Traitor’s Revenge” ashcan comic.
