‘My Adventures with Superman’ Season 1, Episode 3 Review

Superman is a tricky character to write for because there are so many different versions of him. Audiences have seen him as a young kid exploring his powers as well as exploring them as a teen. They’ve also seen him trying to become Superman when he’s already gained full control of his powers and fully aware of his history. My Adventures with Superman does something a bit different. It tries to combine elements of classic Superman defending Metropolis while also exploring how he discovers his identity. Typically, the Man of Steel isn’t known for going into adulthood with so little knowledge about who he is. So this is unexplored territory that makes the show very interesting.
The third episode mainly focuses on Lois Lane (Alice Lee) attempt to get an interview with Superman (Jack Quaid). The bad guys in this episode: Intergang, a group of low-level criminals powered with sci-fi tech. Their numbers includes a version of the classic Superman villain Silver Banshee. Eventually, the group misuses an ice forming device, causing Superman to use his heat vision for the first time. Afterwards, Big Blue takes Lois Lane up to a rooftop where she can actually conduct an interview with him. However, Superman isn’t able to answer many questions as he is still unsure about who he is, where he comes from, or how his powers work.
Plot wise, there wasn’t much going on in this episode. It did feature different versions of some classic villains, but for the most part, it centered on Lois being pushed off the Superman story by The Daily Planet and her continuing to pursue it. She wasn’t going to give up her interest in Superman easily. This makes a lot of sense as the show is actually called My Adventures with Superman, referring to Lois trying to spend time with the Man of Tomorrow. This is an interesting dynamic in the relationship that hasn’t been explored too much in other Superman adaptations. So right off the bat, this show is definitely headed in the right direction.
