‘Kill My Boyfriend’ Comic Crowdfunding Kicks Off August 15

by Tom Smithyman

Crowdfunding begins later this month for the revenge mystery comic Kill My Boyfriend #1. The miniseries tells the tale of a woman who plots the perfect murder mystery to get rid of her boyfriend and get away with murder.

The series is written by writer Anas Abdulhak (Etheres) with artist Tench (The Color of Always) and letterer Nathan Kempf (Weird Al Illustrated).

Kim Wright’s world is shattered when her boyfriend Ethan shamelessly takes credit for her work and steals her dream job. Fueled by hatred, Kim channels her knowledge of murder mysteries to devise the perfect plan to kill her boyfriend and get away with it. Instead of a whodunit, the mystery centers around a “howdunit.”

“This book is really just a fun comedic revenge story that I’ve been wanting to make since forever,” said Abdulhak. “I’ve always been a fan of classic whodunits. I would describe it as Knives Out meets Do Revenge with a Stepford Wives flare. All my previous works were pretty abstract. And while I loved exploring very personal themes through poetry and art, sometimes it’s good to just have fun with a witty story and a sharp protagonist and just come up with fun ways to introduce characters and present plot twists along the way as the story unfolds.”

Kill My Boyfriend will be available on Kickstarter beginning August 15, 2023, and will fund through mid-September. Reward tiers will include physical copies of both covers as well special commissions and chances to be drawn into the book.
