Webcomic Weekly: The Wonderful Work Of Lucie Ebrey

Webcomic Weekly, in which I continue to stay with the title despite rarely managing to get these out every seven days. But the important bit isn’t the frequency, it’s the quality – and today’s Webcomic Weekly is Lucie Ebrey, pure quality, a wonderful talent.

I first discovered Lucie Ebrey back in 2015 when she was a few years into Muggy Ebes, a diary strip she began in 2012 and ended in 2017. It was a great series, something from an obvious talent, still only at university.

 

In Muggy Ebes, Ebrey mostly told tales of her life, with herself as a blue dog, invariably wearing the same old plaid shirt. It was funny sure, but it was also revealing, honest, open, painful even. It had that sort of openness that took you deep into her life. It was full of questions, sometimes from the reader wanting to ask if Ebrey was all right. It was that sort of thing. And the art was just a delightful thing, fresh, lively, fast stuff.

Unfortunately for us, Ebrey’s made the decision to take it all offline. She published three volumes of it in 2015 and 2106, but they’ve long since sold out a print run. So all we have is the few strips that are on Ebrey’s website. But those are more than enough to show you Ebrey’s talent…

 

Of course, since then, Ebrey’s made more and more comics, many of which you can see online for places including The A.V. Club, Oxford University Press, BOOM! Studios, FORGE. Art Magazine, and most recently with 2000 AD on their Mega-City Max comic for teens.

Her debut graphic novel, the first in the Cowgirls & Dinosaurs series, comes out from Razorbill/Penguin Young Readers in September 2023…

It’s described as:
