‘Avengers Inc.’ Shows A Different Sort Of Avenging In New Trailer

Marvel’s long standing tradition of a second Avengers title returns in September. Usually it’s a familiar team of B-listers, or a quirky squad headed up by one of the biggest names in avenging. With Avengers Inc. we’re going to see a completely unique Avengers spin-off with the winsome Wasp front and center.

Janet Van Dyne has been front and center since the very beginning. It’s about time that she’s led a high profile Avengers series. Avengers Inc. will also feature the return of longtime B-book writer Al Ewing, who wrote various Avengers titles for about five years at the beginning of his career in superhero comics. On art is Leonard Kirk, one of the industry’s most reliable and engaging interior artists.

And it all starts when the Wasp begins investigating a string of super-villain murders, and a familiar name popping up with a new face…

Her name is Janet Van Dyne. She’s a hero. She’s a celebrity. She’s hunting a killer and she’s not the only one. By her side is Victor Shade. He’s a villain. He’s an enigma. He just got killed. And together, they’re out to solve every mystery in the Marvel Universe…starting with their own. Fans can get their first look at this stylish new series in the all-new AVENGERS INC. trailer, featuring never-before-seen artwork and covers!

“Avengers Inc. takes the beating, buzzing heart of the original Avengers, teams her up with an undead mystery man with an identity so secret even he doesn’t know it, and sends them both out to solve the most amazing, fantastic and uncanny whodunnits the Marvel Universe has to offer!” Ewing explained. “It’s kind of a classic ‘will-they-won’t-they’ crime-solving partnership—or it would be if the ‘will-they’ in question was ‘save the world from…’ Well, that’d be telling. See you in September!”

If it were coming from almost any other creative team, I might not be interested in this one. Ewing has built a reputation of intricate plotting with fantastic character beats. The link to the Vision is a fascinating one, and from the variant covers, it looks like there’s way more under the surface than we want to admit. Add the appearances in the trailer- including Valkyrie, the Vision and Moon Knight- and this looks like way more than “just” the B-book.
