Summary
Fan Expo Canada runs at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre between August 24-27, 2023. Here are some pictures from the first day.
The Fan Expo Canada show is back in Toronto this year. It is held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and runs from Thursday, August 24th to Sunday August 27th. Toronto’s biggest con was a little smaller this year. This may have been due to the recent writers’ and actors’ strikes which limited the number of appearances by celebrities and TV/Film promotions could run at the show. The following are photos of items of interest glimpsed on the trade floors:
The following are a few pictures from the Artist Alley. The third of these photos details all the different kinds of autographs that can be purchased from artist Clayton Crain and their prices. It seems that autographs seem to be diversifying!
The last set of photos is taken from the portfolios of memorabilia ex-Marvel editor Jim Shooter brought along to show-and-tell. Some of this is Shooter’s own work, either as layouts for scripts he wrote, attempts at penciling or inking, communication with various people related to comics, or other keepsakes from his various ventures and experiences in the industry:
The very last of the above images is a rejected page penciled by Jack Kirby upon which Shooter inked for practice very early in his career. Over the next few days I will cover some of the panel discussions held at the convention.
