NetEase Games Introduces The World To Open World RPG ‘Project Mugen’
by Sage Ashford
In one of the most eye-catching reveals during Gamescom, NetEase Games and ThunderFire Studio have revealed a first trailer for their upcoming game, currently known only as Project Mugen. It is somehow not an expansion of the custom fighting game from the 2000s, but instead a free-to-play gacha experience that sets players loose in an open-world, urban RPG. In that setting, players will become an Esper, exploring the city and using their abilities to shut down dangerous anomalies and supernatural powers.
This game has some of the best looking traversal any video game’s had in quite some time — even if it does look very similar to Sony’s Spider-Man games — and the combat seems pretty legitimate as well. The only big question is exactly how the monetization of this “gacha RPG” will play out. Well, that and when this is actually planned to release.
Project Mugen is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5, PC, Android, iOS, the Cloud, and strangely, the PlayStation 4. The ability to preregister for the game is available on their website.
