‘Ahsoka’ Season 1, Episode 2 Review — More Rebels Awesomeness

They are essentially two types of people who approach Ahsoka. Those who watched Star Wars Rebels and those who did not. For viewers who watched it, it’s hard to imagine someone coming to the show without the knowledge of the storyline. It’s undoubtedly a sequel to Rebels and so viewers with that past knowledge will have the upper hand in knowing what is going on. The show more or less does a good job recapping the events for those who didn’t watch it, but for the purposes of a review, it’s hard to jump into that person’s shoes and imagine what it would be like coming at the show with a blank slate.
The episode starts with Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) recovering from the injuries she sustained in the previous episode. Going back to the scene of the crime, Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) captures one of the assassin droids, and Sabine uses it’s brain to track its origin to a former Imperial shipyard on Corellia. Ahsoka and General Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) go to investigate and uncover an Imperial plot to build a large star cruiser intended to travel into deep space and find Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen). The enemy gets away, but Chopper places a tracker on the ship, which they will undoubtedly hunt down in the next episode. Meanwhile, after Sabine fully recovers, she dons her Mandalorian armor and rejoins Ahsoka as her apprentice.
Even those who watched Rebels might be a little lost by where the characters stand. Obviously, there was a lot of tension between Sabine and Ahsoka as they must have had a falling out in the seven or so years between the end of Rebels and the start of this show. That unspoken tension goes a long way to creating a new dynamic. Plus, it is great seeing Hera’s piloting skills in action and Chopper’s trademark grumpiness. Ahsoka also held her own in battle, thus showing that she is still the same character Star Wars fans have come to know and love from the animated series. There’s still a long way to go, but it appears as if the show is off to a good start.
