Marvel Summons The Zombie Apocalypse For October’s Variant Covers

by Tom Smithyman

October is the season for ghosts, goblins and now zombies, thanks to Marvel Comics. The publisher has unveiled a series of eight variant covers by its young artists known as Stormbreakers.

The artists, including Elena Casagrande, Nic Klein, Jan Bazaldua and CF Villa, bring the zombie apocalypse to life – sort of – through variant covers featuring undead versions of Spider-Man, Moon Knight, She-Hulk and Venom. Stormbreakers is meant to spotlight those powerful artists to showcase their abilities.

In addition to playing off of the Halloween season, the variant covers will help to promote the publisher’s Marvel Zombies: Black, White & Blood. The four-issue limited series will feature shocking tales set in a world where well-known heroes were helpless against an ever-growing horde of zombies. Marvel promises some gore sprinkled in with the horror.

The zombie variant covers kick off October 4, 2023, with Chris Allen’s Black Panther #5 and continue throughout the month with:

  • Amazing Spider-Man #25 by Casagrande
  • Venom #26 by Villa
  • Daredevil #2 by Federico Vicentini
  • Moon Knight #28 by Klein
  • Sensational She-Hulk #1 by Lucas Werneck
  • Captain Marvel #1 by Bazaldua
  • X-Men #27 by Martin Coccolo
