Review — ‘Gargoyles: Dark Ages’ #3 Comes To The Rescue

Summary
The Gargoyles go to the rescue of their clan member Angel. Yet, what ramifications will they face if they fail? Meanwhile the work that begins on the home they will share with the humans wakes something dangerous. Are the Gargoyles and their friends problems going to compound or are their troubles like falling dominos?
Overall
7/10Writer Greg Weisman creates a solid script for the main story. However, Weisman seems to use an anachronistic word to the time and region that the prose story occurs in, and this may jar some readers.
Artist Drew Moss is responsible for the interiors and covers G and M. Moss does great work on both the interiors and the covers. Though Moss’s panel layouts could be slightly better in size at times. Yet, he does an amazing job with conveying subtle character actions. As for the cover image’s main strengths they are characterization and the color palette.
Letterer Jeff Eckleberry does a mostly good job. Yet, one word’s accent mark sees a bit of overshadowing due to being too close to the sentence above it.
Colorist Martina Pignedoli provides an excellent selection of hues. Pignedoli even makes certain panels that feel too big work via the right choice of colors.
Covers A, H, R, and S are by artist Clayton Crain. The image is a cross between high quality in execution and standard in design.
Artist Alan Quah creates the image for covers B, I, and Q. All three versions of the image are arguably generic in design, and the character’s torso looking off does not help matters.
Variant covers C, K, and O feature an image of Goliath by artist Mirka Andolfo. This image’s design is lacking in any detail to really make it dynamic, plus Goliath appears to be standing on air.
Covers D, L, and P are by artist Kenya Danino. It may be too much of a close-up for some buyers. Also the crowding of all the elements hinders the sense of tragedy that the image may evoke. Not to mention the overly large moon looks a bit like an explosion due to the lack of color on cover L. Lastly, some of the elements slightly mix in with each other, such as what might be a castle in the background mixing with Goliath’s head and wing.
Artist Erica Henderson provides a high quality image with a great color palette for covers E and N. Although which of the two covers is better is debatable
The final variant covers F and J both feature action figure art by artist Jeff Parker. Unfortunately, the “action figure” looking broke due to the pose somewhat hurts this otherwise high quality image.
