NYCC 2023: Garth Ennis To Give ‘James Bond’ His New Orders This January

by Erik Amaya

Ian Fleming‘s James Bond 007 will be taking orders from someone new: Garth Ennis.

Dynamite announced Tuesday that a new James Bond series will launch in January with Ennis writing and Rapha Lobosco on art. “When I took a look at the Bond of the Fleming novels, as opposed to the larger-than-life figure from the movies, I saw a great deal more potential — a much darker character in a more interesting world,” Ennis said in a statement.

That potential will begin to be realized in “Your Cold, Cold Heart,” the title’s debut story. In it, Bond must track down the source of Stalvoda. A fable of the Cold War — said to kill without leaving a trace — it is now a deadly reality and, of course, it’s escaped into the wild. M, Q, Moneypenny, and Felix Leiter are on call for the adventure, as is Archie Tryon, a new character Ennis is introducing in the tale. Described as “an eccentric, old veteran who enjoys strolls into the sea,” he secured the original Stalvoda formula for Queen and Country. But Bond sees a glimpse of his future in Tryon and the beginning of a conspiracy that may lead into the heart of MI6 itself.

Dave Johnson provides covers as Bond begins a deadly search with ghosts all around him.

James Bond #1 arrives in comic shops in January.
