I have been a huge fan of Andi Watson for decades now, ever since falling in love with his work around the time of Breakfast Afternoon in 2000 And that love continued, through so many books, including Geisha, Slow News Day, Dumped, Love Fights, and Little Star, and his all-ages works Glister, Princess at Midnight, Gum Girl, and Princess Decomposia and Count Spatula.
He’s worked for Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and more on licensed stuff and superhero stuff, but its his own creations where the magic truly happens, both for adults and children.
His most recent works include the wonderful all-ages Kerry and the Knight of the Forest, published by Penguin Randon House in 2020, the magnificent The Book Tour, published by Top Shelf in 2020, and two collaborations with Simon Gane, a magnificently reworked and expanded edition of Paris from Image Comics in 2022 (and reviewed here), and the sun-drenched beauty of Sunburn, again from Image in 2022 (and previewed here). And of course, there’s his ongoing comics published through his Patreon and Catnap Press, including the most recent collection, Distressed Bleeping.

And now we have his latest all-ages book series, coming out from Clarion/Harper Collins – Punycorn. It looks absolutely, completely, wonderfully fun and an absolute delight for all.
It’s all about a big-hearted, but somewhat diminutive and rather clumsy unicorn who somehow manages to be the one to save the land of Carbuncle from the vile Sir Ogre and his evil army.

Here’s what the PR has to say…
“Praised as “hilarious, whimsical epic adventure” by the creator of Hilo, a big-hearted diminutive unicorn and his friends battle to save their kingdom from a powerful (if bratty) ogre in this fast-paced and funny fantasy graphic novel.
Carbuncle is a land of endless rainbows and sugar-sprinkled doughnuts—until the vile Sir Ogre unleashes his evil army on the happy kingdom. Who can stop his outsized appetite for destruction? Punycorn! Who? Punycorn. The smallest, clumsiest, and, yes, puniest of all the unicorns. Punycorn may not look like a hero, but aided by a fireless dragon, a feisty dung beetle, and a magic sword with a hidden secret, he might just be Carbuncle’s only hope!
Readers will root for a motley group of misfits with hearts of gold in this fast-paced, hilarious graphic novel by multi-Eisner-nominated author and artist Andi Watson.”
Punycorn is out right now – buy as many copies as you need to give Christmas pressies!
