The anime is as much about Scott Pilgrim as a work of pop-culture as about Scott as a character. This is a meta-modern love letter to the fans who’ve loved and supported the series. Whether you grew up reading the comics or first discovered the movie – this anime series was made for us and I couldn’t be happier.

There are so many times when revisiting a beloved story just feels like a cash-grab or nostalgic pandering. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off embraces what people love about the series and elevates it to new heights. The eight episodes aren’t simply a Boss Rush of evil exes but complex character studies that might change your perspective. Ultimately every character has the potential for a loving or damaging relationship. The characters are still young and starry-eyed but the themes have matured with Scott Pilgrim’s audience.

Studio Science SARU pulls out all the stops and makes the world of Scott Pilgrim come to life in a way beyond the comic or film. This is possibly the most unapologetically ANIME anime to come out this year. Big congrats to Bryan Lee O’Malley and the entire crew and creative team. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is a labor of love that was well worth the wait.
