LA Comic Con: Spider-Gwen Faces Doc Ock, Carnage & More In ‘Giant-Size Spider-Gwen’

by Tony Thornley

Marvel’s Giant-Size specials have been some of the publisher’s most important. In 2024, the publisher celebrates the format’s fiftieth anniversary, and this weekend at LA Comic Con the publisher announced the next special- Giant-Size Spider-Gwen.

The next phase of Gwen Stacy’s life begins in Spider-Gwen: SMASH. Writer Melissa Flores returns after that limited series’ conclusion in March to show her something every Spider has to face… something sinister… Joining Flores is rising star artist Alba Glez, as Gwen faces a new Doc Ock and Earth-65’s Carnage. After the Mary Janes return home from their tour, the remnants of Carnage resurface in Mary Jane herself. As Gwen tries to help her friend, it attracts the attention of Orlando Octavius- Otto’s adopted son- setting off a chain of events that will test the hero to her limits.

“Helping Gwen Stacy settle into her home dimension in Spider-Gwen: SMASH was an incredible pleasure,” Flores shared. “Being given the opportunity to continue to develop those relationships in this one-shot was an unexpected jolt of euphoria that I never saw coming. I wasn’t ready to leave Gwen or Earth-65 behind, and I’m so thankful that now I don’t have to!”
