Previewing ‘Carol & The End Of The World’ On Netflix

I grew up with the constant threat of the end of the world being held above my head by my parents and members of the community I was in. I never felt the comfort they did in the ever-looming end times like they did.
More than anything, it just gave me a ton of anxiety. Every dime-store Nostradamus book and Sunday morning sermon about the fire and brimstone that would scorch the Earth filled me with dread. Carol & The End of The World feels like the antithesis of that feeling. It feels strangely hopeful in the face of a planetary collision and for that, it has my attention.
Carol & The End of the World, a new limited series coming to Netflix on December 15th, seems to be a quieter take on the end of the planet we call home. From the soft synth music to the charming animation and the seemingly soft-spoken and kind protagonist, Carol, this whole curtain call for existence seems to be less fire and brimstone and more a quest to do kind things for those who may have never learned to be kind to themselves. It’s frankly very inviting and I’m looking forward to seeing what this 10-episode series is going to bring to the table.
Created by Dan Guterman of The Colbert Report, Community, and Rick and Morty, the talented cast of this show is a wonderful blend of voices including Martha Kelly, Beth Grant, Lawrence Pressman, Kimberly Hébert Gregory, Mel Rodriguez, Bridget Everett, Michael Chernus and Delbert Hunt.
The list of guest stars is a veritable who’s who of talented people from across the media spaces. It includes Alison Brie, Barkhad Abdi, Danny Pudi, Fred Armisen, Gillian Jacobs, Kurtwood Smith, Laurie Metcalf, LeVar Burton, Stephen Colbert, and Tim Heidecker to name a few.
