Jumping On — Series Premieres, One-Shots, And New Story Arcs Kicking Off On December 20, 2023

One of the most frustrating things about finding new comics to read and enjoy is finding a good jumping on point. It can be confusing and disheartening to pick up a single issue from the middle of an arc without having the context of the previous chapters.

With that in mind, here are a few New Story Arcs, Series Premieres, and One-Shots that caught my eye for this upcoming New Comic Book Day, Wednesday, December 20, 2023.

ROM and the X-Men: Marvel Tales #1

ROM is back at Marvel, where he belongs. While there don’t seem to be any plans to kick off a modern arc, we are getting a lot of reprints of classic stories. ROM and the X-Men: Marvel Tales #1 collects ROM #17-18 and ROM #31-32, two stories that team the spaceknight up with your favorite mutants to hunt Hybrids (half human, half Dire Wraith) on Earth. 

Godzilla Rivals: Jet Jaguar Vs. Megalon #1

The beast with drill arms and geothermal napalm returns! Jen Onça is not excited to start her new, fast-paced fast-food career at Minilla Burger, but she’d much prefer a mundane day to the one she got. When Megalon traps Jen in a forgotten lab deep beneath the restaurant, she only has the half-built form of Jet Jaguar to help her escape. She must repair the robotic defender to save herself (and the city).

Borealis #1

Qinu, Alaska. Winter nights last months, temperatures can hit seventy below, alcohol is illegal, and something mysterious is emerging on the remote ice. After thirteen years away, State Trooper Silaluk “Sil” Osha is pulled back to investigate a string of brutal murders, only to face her dark past, and her shocking connection to deadly legends.
