Comicon Advent Calendar Day 20: Too Many Santas!

We’re getting closer and closer now… it’s day 20 of our festive advent calendar where we show you the finest Christmas comics, one a day for every day of advent…

Today, it’s a very special tale from 1988’s Comico Christmas Special – Too Many Santas… all underneath that gorgeous Dave Stevens cover…

Too Many Santas, by Doug Wheeler and Bernie Mireault is, we have to point out to any youngsters reading this, a complete fiction!

Of course there’s a Santa, one Santa, who delivers all the presents around the world on Christmas Eve.

But, having said that, Wheeler and Mireault’s great little story of a kid who sees way too many Santas all around him and comes to the completely wrong conclusion (remember kids, he is real) that Santa doesn’t really exist is an absolutely great lost classic of Christmas comics…

So, when a rather mean Santa drops in through his window one night when mum and dad have gone out, of course he just assumes it’s a burglar. (Oh, and kids, another PSA here… please don’t do that with guns. Please.)

After all, what sort of Santa would be out burglarising folks at Christmas time?

Still, let’s give burglar Santa credit, he does come up with a plausible explanation for it all. Shame that the kid’s not buying it. All of this works its way towards a suitably silly yet slightly creepy ending – and all that beautiful Bernie Mireault artwork is an absolute treat.
