Things Get Galactic As The Star-Spider Is Born In ‘Edge Of Spider-Verse’ #3

It’s time to swing back into the Spider-Verse where old friends await and new ones to make along the way.
Marvel Comics’ annual series, Edge Of Spider-Verse, returns in February with a new set of web-filled issues. Previous installments of this series saw the rise of favorites like Spider-Gwen or Spider-Rex, and recently expanded the new character Spider-Boy.
Reacquainting and introducing is just part of the goal of this four-issue series, as it will also pave the way for the next Spider filled event called Spider Society.
The series’ first two issues will see the return of the tech-heavy Spider-Byte and 90s-esque Cyborg Spider-Man while providing the first appearances of Weapon VIII and the horror-tinged Spooky-Man. It’s the third issue which holds some of the biggest debuts and returns though.
Artist Pete Woods and writer Justina Ireland will bring about the debut of the galaxy traveling Star-Spider. Aboard her Silk ship, this hero travels the stars and through alien cityscapes to help those who need it.
About this story, Ireland said, “Getting to work on anything Spider-Verse is awesome and getting the chance to create a new Spider is bananapants awesome.” She said that the Star-Spider is a homage to many of her childhood loves including science-fiction, awkward characters, and super heroes. Ireland described the character as “smart and silly” as well as “a bit out of her depth, but also tenacious” and hopes that everyone “loves her as much as I do.”
Making a sort of return of his own, Woods said that getting to work with Ireland and creating a new hero is a “once-in-a-lifetime treat.” Additionally, he said, “The design for Star-Spider and her corner of the universe is a colorful mashup of everything I love about comics, film, and animation.”
He descried the story as a “fun ride and a perfect introduction to Star-Spider’s world and its vibrant characters.”
Alongside this debut will be the return of the popular character Web-Weaver in a new story written by character co-creator Steve Foxe.
On revisiting the character he helped create, Foxe said it’s been a real “(web-) blast.” Additionally he said, “When we originally conceived of Cooper Coen and his supporting cast, we knew there were no limits to the stories we could tell with him, especially because each new installment lets us play with all-new versions of familiar Spider-Faces!”
Edge Of Spider-Verse #1 debuts on February 22nd with Edge Of Spider-Verse #3 arriving on April 11th.
