Dead Sky Publishing’s ‘DEPROG’ Promises To Be Thrilling, Twisted, And Torrid, And… I’m In

by Anton Kromoff

Welcome to the table,

I’ve always been a comic fan, even when I had to take a few years away from reading anything that was not written by Cullen Bunn or within the framework of the Mignola-verse. Even in those years when I was actively ignoring the newer books hitting shelves, I was reading various runs from my collection. One of the favorites that I return to time and time again is Hellblazer, as the vibe of the bastard John Constantine strikes a chord with me in a way most long-form series just have not been able to do.

Recently, the upcoming title DEPROG has come across my desk and it seems to have that same vibe, with hints of Jessa Jones and a little bit of a lip-biting kink twist.

From co-creators Tina Horn and Lisa Sterle alongside colorist Gab Contreras and cover artist Dani, DEPROG from Dead Sky Publishing tells the tail of Tate Debs, a self-proclaimed “hardboiled, hard-drinking, leather-loving dyke detective” with an office in the back of Los Angeles’ last video store. Tate specializes in rescuing and deprogramming people from abusive groups with extreme beliefs akin to the one she escaped, which believed in inter-dimensional travel and taboo ritual sex.

However, when Tate is hired to infiltrate a group of mystical hippies out in the desert, she must decide if the femme who has hired her, who may just be fatale, is worth being re-traumatized. Meanwhile, she faces her past in a way that blurs the lines between romance, revenge, and reckless abandoned.

Preorders are available now through January 24. You should ask your LCS to order a copy for you or you can pre-order at this link if you don’t have a shop in your area.

Until next time, this story is set to be a hybrid genre story layering a detective thriller with inter-dimensional travel and taboo sex… I’m totally in!
